Zachary G. Darrow, Esq. is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Capitol Communications, LLC. Mr. Darrow has extensive government affairs experience having represented commercial developers and entrepreneurs before state and local bodies across Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
As a former Special Advisor to the Mayor of Providence, Mr. Darrow counseled city officials on landmark legislation relating to the development and regulation of the Providence “Knowledge District.” In 2012, he also advised the Mayor’s office during negotiations with some of the largest tax-exempt institutions in Providence as part of a plan to help restore Providence to fiscal stability. In Fall River, Mr. Darrow has served as Special Counsel to the city on matters pertaining to commercial real estate development programs and economic development, including the creation of enterprise zones and a city-wide solar program.
In recent legislative sessions, Mr. Darrow has represented a coalition of real estate developers on numerous issues surrounding economic development in the State of Rhode Island. In the course of this representation, Mr. Darrow authored a piece of legislation to restore and improve the State Historic Tax Credit Program, as well as legislation creating a program to reuse abandoned credits and put them back into use for current projects.
In addition to his experience working with leaders at the state level on behalf of his clients, Mr. Darrow has over 15 years of experience representing real estate developers and businesses before municipalities. Mr. Darrow has successfully represented national, regional and local clients’ interests before city and town officials across Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Mr. Darrow has extensive private sector experience both as entrepreneur and as the managing partner of DarrowEverett LLP which is a full-service law firm located in Providence, Boston, New York and Miami, Florida. As an attorney, Mr. Darrow’s practice concentrates in the areas of corporate, private equity, finance, commercial real estate and government affairs. He currently represents regional and national retailers, regional and national developers, landlords and tenants of all types of commercial properties, lenders and equity participants (institutional and private) and various non-real estate based entities with their business law needs.
Among many other matters and projects, Mr. Darrow has worked extensively with a Fortune 100 retailer in its site acquisition and ground leasing program; and has created the legal structure and documentation for one of Rhode Island’s largest high-end waterfront condominium and resort developments.
Mr. Darrow is an adjunct professor of law at Roger Williams University School of Law. He also is an incorporator of the Providence Foundation and serves on the Greater Kennedy Plaza Board of Directors. In addition, Mr. Darrow is a board member of the following organizations: The Downtown Providence Parks Conservancy, PeaceLove Studios/Peace Love Foundation and Read to Succeed.
